Power Electronics and Programming

Power wheelchairs are fully equipped with a multitude of programming choices and settings to customize the mobility for the individual. The programming of power wheelchairs allows the user to control many features, such as

*This is all in addition to the user having control of the speed and steering of the chair.

There are frequently two methods of adjusting electronic options:

  • With some wheelchairs,  there is a specific, correlated  button to press that correlates to the wheelchair option that needs adjustment

Once a specific feature is chosen the user can adjust it with his or her  joystick, switch, or other drive option.

All of these power chair options should be considered when an individual has diagnoses that are progressive because these options may be adjusted during future progression to reduce the more frequent need for a new wheelchair part.
