Frames

The wheelchair frame is what supports the entire wheelchair and acts as the center for stability of the chair

There are two primary categories of wheelchair frames:

1. Manual Wheelchair Frames
   
   • Lightweight/Folding frames
   • Rigid frames
2. Power Wheelchair Frames

Additionally, Frame Adaptations can be made to support an individuals mobility and customize the wheelchair even more with versatility in

• High vs. low back
• Wide, narrow, or regular width of seat
• Reclining vs. tilt-in-space.

Interesting Fact:

• The first electric wheelchairs were developed in the 1950’s. These chairs were basically manual chairs outfitted with an electric motor
• Today, however, they are either custom-made for each individual or a used chair is custom adapted for the client
